The virtuous path that will give ‘new life’ to the site of Enel's former Rossano plant, in the province of Cosenza, continues through a competition aimed to identify - together with the local institutions and communities - the best proposals for the area. In the last few days, the selection of the redevelopment projects, aimed at revitalising the site according to the Futur-e model, was completed. Many of the competing ideas regarded the field of hospitality and the enhancement of the most outstanding local food.
In line with the circular economy programme set up by Enel, the Rossano site is at the centre of proposals for a partial re-use of the existing structures for activities that are entirely new in the area surrounding the power plant. Like a centre for local culinary traditions, or exhibition, trading and research centres, the possible construction of marinas for leisure boats or of locations where innovative cultivation methods can be tested.
Launched in March 2016, the path towards the redevelopment of 70 hectares of the former power station is now in its final stage, after the evaluation made by the Selection Committee consisting of Enel, academia and institutional representatives, with the participation of region Calabria President Mario Oliverio, and the mayor of Rossano, Stefano Mascaro.
The Commission verified the suitability of the six projects based on the technical reports, sustainability criteria and the forecasting of socio-employment impacts.
Therefore, the process leading to the final choice that will enhance all of the area’s potential is about to be completed.
