Street art flourishes at e-distribuzione substations in Reggio Emilia

Discovering Reggio Emilia through a unique street art tour along ten stops. These unusual landmarks are ten power substations that e-distribuzione has made available for this unique creative project conceived by Sebastiano Ferrari, a student at the local I.I.S. Blaise Pascal high school, with the support of a group of other youngsters.

The tour is the result of an agreement signed by Enel and city authorities on December 3rd. Scheduled to start in early 2017, it will be part of an educational visit for schools supervised by the Centro sociale Papa Giovanni XIII Association and volunteers from the Officina Educativa.

e-distribuzione manager for Reggio Emilia and Modena Antongiulio De Lazzari said: “This project brings together the values of sustainability, innovation and respect for the environment, all values shared by Enel. In particular, it testifies to our commitment to spreading the values of active citizenship and a sense of civic duty among young people in order to build a better future”.

These goals are met by “Luce dall’energia, calore dalla fantasia” - Light from Energy, Heat from Fantasy, a project launched to promote urban revitalisation through environmental and energy issues as seen by the artistic sensitivity of young street artists. Similar agreements have already been signed by the Enel Group elsewhere in Italy, but in this specific case the City of Reggio Emilia will allocate €3,200 to purchase spray paints and other materials for the graffiti. The Papa Giovanni XXIII Association will provide two mobile roll-up banners to illustrate the purpose of the project.

These are the first significant steps toward a broader revitalisation that in coming years will embellish other constructions and expand the tour, while creating a permanent street art workshop.
