Rome, 12 June 2007 - Enel, acting through its French subsidiary Enel Erelis, has finalised the acquisition of four projects to build wind plants with a total capacity of 58 MW.
The plants, which are scheduled for completion by the end of 2009, will be located in Brittany (14 MW and 12 MW), Picardie (20 MW) and Auvergne (12 MW).
With this transaction, Enel expands its portfolio with new projects sited in high-potential areas for wind power.
Enel entered the promising wind power market in France in July 2006 with the acquisition of Erelis, founded in 2002, an operation that is an integral part of its global growth strategy for power generation from renewables.
Enel Erelis, which is based in Lyon, has projects under development amounting to about 500 MW of power, of which 8 MW will enter service this year, 8 MW by the end of 2008, 196 MW are at an intermediate or advanced stage and about 290 MW at the initial development stage. Enel Erelis is also developing about 110 MW for third parties. The projects are located in various regions in France.
The development of Enel Erelis helps strengthen Enels position in the renewables sector and is part of its Environmental Plan, which envisages investment of more than 4 billion euros through 2011 in renewables and research. Enel is already a world leader with more than 19,000 MW of installed capacity in hydroelectric, wind, geothermal, solar and biomass facilities
