Porto Tolle: memorandum of intent signed with the Human Company

A tourist village on the Po Delta. The signing of the memorandum of intent by Enel and leading Italian tourism and hospitality group, the Human Company, marks the start of the journey towards the repurposing of the former thermoelectric power station at Porto Tolle near the Po Delta nature reserve. The Human Company’s proposal for the project will see the site turned into an innovative open-air tourist village.

The document in question aims to explore in further depth the feasibility of the repurposing and acquisition project from a technical authorisation and environmental perspective. It is also a further step towards a new future for the area. This comes just a few days after the creation of a technical panel with local institutions which will focus on pinpointing the best solutions for driving forward the project’s authorisation process.

The Human Company’s “Deltafarm” project proposes the development of holiday home plots, a water sports hub and a centre that will foster the natural, environmental, artisanal, wine and culinary excellence of the area, on a 110 hectare site. A further 20 hectares of woodland will also be created.

The Po Delta is both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve and, thanks to its fish stocks, it can also be promoted as a venue for recreational fishing.

In line with Futur-e guidelines, the aim is, of course, to create new opportunities that also involve the local area to ensure that the project replacing the power station will guarantee sustainable social, environmental and economic development.
