Geothermal energy that produces savings

In Tuscany, small and medium enterprises operating in geothermal areas will get from Enel Energia up to 10% discount on energy bills

The heat of the earth is a crucial resource for Tuscany. Enel’s 34 power plants, which constitute the oldest geothermal complex in the world, contribute every day to meet the green energy demand of dozens of thousands of families and businesses. To promote sustainable industrial production - which has already enabled the launch of a range of quality zero impact food products - Enel Energia offers a favorable rate to small and medium enterprises operating in geothermal areas. The offer is the result of the activation of the memorandum of understanding signed last March between Enel and the Region of Tuscany and provides a discount for SMEs of up to 10 percent on their energy bill.

Overall, the companies connected to the medium voltage network that will benefit from the new offer are about 150-200, while the potential low-voltage small and medium enterprises, which may fall among those entitled to the discount, exceed one thousand. In the coming weeks Enel Energia consultants will begin to contact businesses to meet them and explain in detail the standard contract that is proposed. In geothermal areas, in collaboration with the municipalities, the Co.Svi.G. (Consortium Development Geothermal areas) and trade associations, public meetings will be organised to describe the initiative and the many benefits that geothermal energy offers to those who intend to make investments in the areas of geothermal Tuscany.

The sixteen municipalities that will benefit from the offer are in the province of Pisa (Pomarance, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, Montecatini Val di Cecina, and Monterotondo Marittimo Monteverdi Marittimo), Siena (Abbadia San Salvatore, Chiusdino, Piancastagnaio, Radicofani, Radicondoli, San Casciano dei Bagni) and Grosseto (Arcidosso, Castel del Piano, Roccalbegna, Santa Fiora and Montieri). SMEs will be able to enjoy the same rates applied to large industrial complexes, with immediate benefits on production costs.

"We note with satisfaction that, after the necessary time required for the activation of this new mode of electricity supply, businesses can freely consider this offer", said the president of the Tuscany Region, Enrico Rossi. "The production activities of the geothermal areas often have to endure a burden of logistics and transport costs: this measure will therefore introduce a structural recovery factor of local competitiveness, cutting by about 10% energy bills. It is a further result of the agreements entered into with Enel. It's a demonstration of how the geothermal resource can generate benefits for businesses and workers. Soon we will review the overall agreements with Enel and the municipalities, also to facilitate the adaptation of infrastructure, starting from the roads".
