You can also call them the hardcore cyclists of the Marzocchina. Neither the wind nor pouring rain over the weekend were able to stop the 140 participants at the fifth edition of the bicycle tour that crossed through the heart of Tuscany and of which Enel is main sponsor. Another contribution offered by the company to competitive cycling, after the choice of sponsoring the Pink Jersey at the Giro d'Italia for the 2016-2018 three-year period.
Racing along four historical routes that connect Arezzo to Florence requires special energy, especially when the dirt roads become muddy tracks, while the medieval villages and the rolling hills of Tuscany’s landscape suddenly prove to be tough destinations to reach by thrusting on your pedals.
After starting off on Sunday, 10 September, from the main square of San Giovanni Valdarno, the participants in the race gave all they had both on the 12-km and 50-km circuits. Because of the weather conditions, it was not possible for them to compete on the 20-km leg that crossed the former mining area of Santa Barbara.
Nonetheless, the day was once again a celebration of the values of sport, culture and art.
The company gave proof of its commitment throughout the area thanks to the Enel Partner Point in Valdarno, set up from Saturday, 9 September, in the town of Marzocchina. One of the many tourist attractions of the competition organised by the Pro Loco organisation of San Giovanni Valdarno, with the contribution of the Confcommercio association, which has always been attentive to promoting local highlights: from guided tours to the “Annunciation” by Beato Angelico kept at the Museum of the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Florence, to the picturesque village of Montegonzi (new entry of the 2017 edition), through vintage flea markets, photographic exhibitions and memorabilia
Even at a race that looks to the past, Enel opens the doors of the future.
