With the signing on the Manifesto of the Alliance for the Circular Economy in November 2017, a network of large Italian companies, including us, was born, focusing on circularity as a strategic key to competitiveness and environmental sustainability. Three years later, the Alliance is not only expanding to include other companies and new sectors, but is relaunching its mission for the future with a new position paper, also in light of the Covid-19 crisis.
The health emergency has reinforced what the climate crisis portended and shown how natural, economic and social systems are strongly interconnected. This confirms that a circular economic model is not just a compulsory choice but an opportunity to boost the country's competitiveness.
Hence the renewed sense of the Alliance, which aims to guide an overall evolution of the Italian economy from a circular point of view, enhancing our excellence, focusing on innovation, favouring the sharing of experiences and best practices, and promoting a constant comparison for a new development model. The circular economy as a new vision for the future.
In 2021, the work of the Alliance focused on the role of the Circular Economy in four specific areas: Measurement, Finance, Cities and Territories, and Climate Change Mitigation through the drafting of popular notebooks with the vocation of representing valuable business experiences and advancing policy proposals.
The focus in 2022 was on Circular Procurement and Circular Declarations and Communications. The two position papers were presented at Ecomondo.
The Alliance's ability to offer a perspective to the Italian economy is also strengthened by the profile of the companies involved, important realities of our production system, with a total turnover of 134 billion euros, 311 thousand employees and 106 thousand suppliers belonging to 7 different value chains.
Together with us, 12 other companies: A2A, Aquafil, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, CIRFOOD, Costa Crociere, Gruppo Hera, Intesa Sanpaolo, NextChem (Maire Tecnimont Group), Salvatore Ferragamo, Touring Club Italiano and Ferrovie dello Stato.
Leading companies in different sectors that are transforming their business model by developing new technologies, innovating processes and products, involving suppliers and consumers. Demonstrating, with facts, that a circular future for the Italian economy is possible. And convenient for everyone.
