ENEL PURCHASES 63 MW WIND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN TEXAS

Enel growth in North America’s renewable makes a step forward

Rome, 18 October, 2006 - Enel SpA, through its subsidiary Enel North America, Inc., has entered into an agreement with Windkraft Nord USA (WKN USA), to buy all of the interest and rights to the 63 MW Snyder Wind Project (Snyder), to be developed in Scurry County, Texas. The new wind farm will provide Texas with clean wind power in 2007.

Snyder will employ Vestas’ most cutting-edge technology, the V90 3.0 MW wind turbine generator. Snyder represents the first time that this turbine model will be used at a project of this size in the United States.

“Enel North America marks another step forward in wind power, fully in line with our strategic target to grow in renewable worldwide.” said Fulvio Conti, Enel CEO. “This deal, coupled with the partnership we signed in September with TradeWind Energy to develop over 1,000 MW of wind capacity, further confirms Enel’s strong commitment to develop the wind market in the USA

WKN USA will remain involved in the project as the construction manager. Florian Zerhusen, Managing Director of Windkraft Nord USA, stated “I am very excited about WKN’s first project in the United States. We are proud to continue our important relationship with Vestas and to have found in Enel a strong partner that will make this cornerstone project for WKN a reality”.
