- The global Accountability Global 50+ list published by Fortune magazine ranks Enel, the only Italian company in the ranking, in the top ten for its attention to sustainability.
- Forty-seven ethical and socially responsible funds invest in Enel stock
Rome, 24 October 2006 Enel has entered the top ten of the Accountability Global 50+ ranking: it is 6th in the overall ranking and 3rd among world utilities (and only Italian company), improving its position on the previous year.
Each year the Accountability Global 50+ ranking assesses the worlds largest companies by market capitalization in the sectors Computer, Electronics and Telecommunications, Automotive, Energy and Utilities, Petroleum Refining and Financial based on their effectiveness in implementing the principles of social responsibility and quantifying the impact of their actions on their stakeholders.
The survey, which was first conducted in 2004, is carried out by two consulting firms that are leaders in the social responsibility sector: AccountAbility and CSR Network. The ranking examines the performance of each company from a number of perspectives: stakeholder engagement, strategy, governance, assurance, performance management and public disclosure, comparing them with the performance of the worlds largest companies. The results are published by Fortune.
This year the survey examined the worlds 50 top companies by revenues, plus a further 14 companies to obtain at least 10 enterprises per sector.
Enels strong showing parallels the rise in the number of socially responsible investors (SRI) in the companys stock. According to the latest figures at 30 June 2006, the number of SRI funds from around the world that have become Enel shareholders has rise to 47.
