INTESA SANPAOLO AND ENEL.SI JOIN FORCES TO PROMOTE PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER: LAUNCH OF INNOVATIVE FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS

Rome, 9 July 2009 - Intesa Sanpaolo and Enel.si, the Enel Green Power company that is a leader in the installation of renewable energy systems, have signed an agreement that will enable households and businesses to obtain financing for the purchase and installation of photovoltaic systems. The objective of the agreement is to offer dedicated financial solutions to help promote the adoption of systems for the generation of electricity from solar energy. This power can benefit from twenty years of financial incentives made available by the Electricity Services Operator (ESO) through the "Energy Account", the government mechanism to foster the growth of renewable energy resources and thus contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, which individuals and public and private enterprises can access.

Enel.si, through its 450 affiliated installers – qualified professionals and entrepreneurs who are part of the company's franchise network – is offering turnkey installation of photovoltaic systems, handling all the necessary technical and administrative requirements, especially regarding the submission of applications for the subsidised rates provided under the "Energy Account" and the connection of plant to the distribution network.

Intesa Sanpaolo, traditionally sensitive to issues of environmental sustainability and active in supporting initiatives in the renewable energy field, has made available its experience in the delivery of financial solutions tailored to specific customer needs, creating ad-hoc financial tools for investment in this area (both with traditional approaches and leasing arrangements), all compatible with the government incentives.

"Intesa Sanpaolo has long supported the development of renewable energy resources through the wide range of services and credit products it offers," says Giuseppe Castagna, head of Corporate Relationship Management for Intesa Sanpaolo. "For this reason, our bank was the first in Europe to earn the "Sustenergy - Sustainable Energy for Europe" label established by the European Commission. This commitment is reinforced by the agreement signed with Italy's Ministry for the Environment to intensify cooperation on energy saving and the promotion of renewable energy. Continuing in this direction, Intesa Sanpaolo has reached this agreement with Enel.si to help even more businesses and families who want to invest and exploit the opportunities that the clean energy and emissions control sector represents."

Ingmar Wilhelm, Head of Enel.si and of Enel Green Power’s Italy Development remarked "The demand for photovoltaic systems in Italy has grown enormously, thanks to the system of incentives that rewards the ever greater environmental sensitivity of Italians. As Enel.si, we are participating in this development by providing our customers with the know-how acquired in years of activity in the area of renewables and energy conservation. With this agreement with Intesa Sanpaolo, a leader in the banking industry, we can help our customers, whether families or businesses, to install their very own photovoltaic systems, overcoming any technical, financial or bureaucratic hurdles they might face. What makes our offer even more interesting is a series of additional services ranging from site surveys for the installation of the equipment to the preparation of the estimate, both free of charge, as well as assistance in preparing the application to the ESO to gain access to the incentives under the "Energy Account" and a free check-up one year after installation."
