- Only projects in Nevada to be awarded Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds

(Fallon, NV)  September 25, 2009 – Enel Green Power’s Stillwater and Salt Wells geothermal plants in Fallon, Nevada have been awarded $61,520,872 in funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s “1603 Program” aimed at creating jobs and helping expand the development of clean, renewable domestic energy.

More than 300 people were employed during construction of Stillwater and Salt Wells. The plants also contribute to Churchill County not only in terms of energy generation from renewables, but also economically. According to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), the pair will have a positive impact on the area of over $4 million dollars and will create 25 permanent jobs for the next thirty years. Additionally, the two plants, the largest in the world of their kind, were fully built up by using components produced in the U.S.

The entry of Stillwater and Salt Wells into service quadruples the amount of electricity generated from geothermal resources by EGP in the United States, thus making a significant contribution to achieving Nevada’s goal of generating 20% of its electricity from renewables by 2015.
