- In 2009, additional 12 MW wind capacity are scheduled to enter into service at La Druine, while 46 MW are under construction over a 500 MW wind pipeline in France only
- Once all three plants are operational, with 30 MW capacity, the Vallée dArce site will host the main Enel Green Power wind farm in France.
Rome - Lyon, October 21, 2009 Today, 18 MW of additional wind capacity from Enel Green Power are entering into service in France with the installation of six 2 MW wind turbines at the Le Nouret site (12 MW) and three 2 MW turbines at the Le Noyer site (6 MW). The two plants are bringing Enel Green Powers total installed wind capacity in France to over 56 MW. Both sites are located in the Vallée dArce area, Aube Department, Champagne-Ardenne Region.
Overall, thanks to the entry into service of the new wind turbines, the two sites will produce more than 47 million kWh per year. Power generation from the two plants will be sufficient to meet the annual energy needs of over 14,000 households, equivalent to approximately half the inhabitants of a city the size of Troyes. At the same time, the clean energy produced by the plants will avoid the annual emission of 38,000 tons of CO2, the greenhouse gas identified as one of the prime causes of climate change.
Le Nouret and Le Noyer are part of a wider project, the Vallée dArce wind farm, that will reach an installed capacity of 30 MW with the entry into service of a third wind farm at La Druine (12 MW), scheduled by the end of 2009. Once La Druine is operational, Vallée dArce will become the main Enel Green Powers wind farm in France.
The wind farms in the Champagne-Ardenne Region are joining the recently-installed 10 MW Beauséjour plant and 12 MW Eparmonts plant in Haute-Marne. As well as La Druines 12 MW, additional 46 MW are under construction out of a wind pipeline totalling more than 500 MW in France only.
EGPs 56 MW installed wind capacity in France currently generates over 122 million kWh every year, enough to meet the annual power needs of 35,000 French households, while avoiding the emission of 98,000 tonnes of CO2.
Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company dedicated to developing and managing worldwide energy generation from renewable sources in Italy and abroad. It operates over 4,500 MW in plants relying on run-of-the-river hydro, wind, geothermal, solar and biomass sources in 14 countries in Europe and the Americas. With over 17 billion kWh produced annually, Enel Green Power is an European leader in the renewables sector.
