Once completed, Portoscuso will bring Enel Green Powers total installed wind capacity on the island to over 250 MW.
Rome, January 14th, 2011 - Enel Green Power received the greenlight from the Region of Sardinia to construct a wind farm in Portoscuso, in the Sulcis Iglesiente area.
The new wind farm will consist of 39 Siemens 2.3 MW wind turbines, for a total installed capacity of around 90 MW. Once fully operational, the wind farm will generate 185 million kWh annually, equal to the consumption of 70,000 households, and will avoid the atmospheric emission of over 130,000 tons of CO2.
Once completed, the Portoscuso wind farm will be Enel Green Powers largest wind farm in Italy.
"This is an important step in the program for Enel Green Powers organic growth, as outlined in the development plans," said Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power. "We are very proud of our presence in Sardinia and we hope to achieve this important investment in 2011."
Currently, EGP operates three wind farms in Sardinia, with an annual production of over 240 million kWh and a total installed capacity of 161 MW, a figure that will rise to more than 250 MW once the Portoscuso facility will become operational.
