The new Salbatica I plant enters into operation, raising EGP’s installed wind power capacity in Romania to 104 MW

Rome, June 30th, 2011 –  Enel Green Power added another 40 MW to its network thanks to the Salbatica I wind farm, which has a total installed capacity of 70 MW. The initial 30 MW were connected to the grid in December last year.

The Salbatica wind farm was built near Tulcea (North Dobrogea) in Romania and consists of thirty-five 2 MW wind turbines.

The estimated annual output of the entire plant is around 200 million kWh, enough to meet the needs of 66 thousand households and avoid the emission of about 140 thousand metric tons of CO2 per year.

Salbatica joins the Agighiol field, the first of EGP’s wind farms in Romania which came into operation last December. With a total installed capacity of 104 MW, the two plants will generate over 290 million kWh per year, enough to meet the needs of some 97 thousand households and avoid the emission of more that 200 thousand metric tons of CO2.

“We keep expanding our presence in Romania at a rapid pace, starting from the opening of the first plant in Agighiol just a few months ago,” commented Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power. “Among renewable technologies, wind energy is certainly the most promising one for generating electricity in this country. Enel Green Power will continue to invest in Romania, focusing primarily on this resource, while evaluating other technologies.”
