Enel is the only utility company in the world to be admitted to the index with the highest grade.
Rome, September 29th, 2011 - Enel has been admitted to the ranking put out by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) of top companies in the world in terms of sustainability. Enel is the only utility company and the only Italian company, aside from Fiat, to receive the top grade (A) from the CDP.
The CDP is a highly-regarded British organisation that represents 551 institutional investors throughout the world that collectively manage 71,000 billion dollars.
The Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) includes 29 companies listed on the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (Global 500) that, like Enel, have shown highest commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through their strategy, governance and communications with stakeholder. The announcement was made in the recent Global 500 Report 2011 prepared for the CDP by PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory (PWC),
Paul Simpson, CEO of the CDP, commented: The improved financial performance of companies with high carbon performance is a clear indicator that it makes good business sense to manage and reduce carbon emissions.
Enels leading position in sustainability at a global level was further recognised by the reconfirmation of its inclusion in the FTSE4Good, an index sponsored by the London Stock Exchange and the Financial Times. The index shows that Enels ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) performance improved from 3.5 to 4.
