The new Kourtesi I plant, located in the Ilia region, in Peloponnese, has just become operational. With an installed capacity of 4.9 MW, the plant is expected to generate 7 million kWh of power per year.

Rome, October 19th, 2011 - Enel Green Power’s first photovoltaic plant, located in the region of Ilia (Prefecture of Peloponnese, Western Greece), has just become operational, bringing the Group’s total installed capacity in the country to 191 MW.

The ground-mounted solar photovoltaic power plant has an aggregate capacity of 4.9 MW and is expected to generate approximately 7 million kWh annually, enough to meet the power consumption needs of nearly 1,700 households. It is worth mentioning that the clean electricity generated by the plant will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by nearly 7,600 tons of CO2 per year.

“Greece enjoys superb solar irradiation levels and thus, photovoltaic power has the potential to become one of the key components of the country’s energy mix” commented Francesco Starace, CEO and General Manager of Enel Green Power.

Enel Green Power is already widely present in the Greek renewables’ sector. EGP’s wind farms, for a total installed capacity of 177 MW, are mainly located in Thrace, but also in Macedonia and Peloponnese, as well as in Evia, Crete and Dodecanese islands. In addition, EGP operates small hydro plants in Central Greece, Western Greece and Thessaly, for a total installed capacity of 14 MW.

About Enel Green Power

It is among the industry leaders worldwide thanks to its approximately 22 billion KWh generated from a well balanced energy mix inclusive of water, sun, wind and geothermal sources. This is enough to meet the energy needs of about 8 million households and avoid the emission of more than 16 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The company's installed capacity exceeds 6,100 MW, produced by more than 620 plants in operation around the world, with a generation mix that includes wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and biomass.
