Rome-Washington DC, May 7th, 2012 – Enel Green Power S.p.A. (“EGP”), through its subsidiary Enel Green Power North America Inc., has begun construction work of the geothermal plant located in Cove Fort in southern Utah (USA).

The new plant, which will have a gross installed capacity of 25 MW, will be able to generate around 160 GWh of electricity per year, avoiding the emission of around 115,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

The plant, which should enter service by the end of 2013, will require a total investment of approximately 126 million US dollars.

The Cove Fort plant will also benefit from a 20-year contract for the purchase of the electricity generated.

“We are pleased to begin another major geothermal project in the US, an industry in which EGP is already a strong player in that country, with two innovative systems using binary technology in Nevada, one of which, Stillwater, is also paired with a photovoltaic system, the first of its kind in the world,” said Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power “Cove Fort will contribute its capacity to Enel Green Power’s existing net installed  geothermal capacity in the US, currently amounting to 47 MW.”
