The agreement provides for the early retirement of some 6,000 workers in Italy while bringing 3,000 young people into the workforce

Rome, November 27th, 2015 – Enel and the electricity industry unions, Filctem-CGIL, Flaei-CISL and Uiltec-UIL, today reached an agreement allowing a major generational change to restore the employment balance between younger and older generations.

The agreement provides for the early retirement of some 6,000 workers in Italy while bringing 3,000 young people into the workforce over the next five years.

Early retirement is implemented according to the provisions of Article 4 of the Fornero Law that enables workers to take voluntary early retirement if they are within four years of the required period for the old age or length of service pension.

A separate agreement, also aimed at reinforcing intergenerational solidarity, does away with some benefits for former Enel employees such as the discount on their electricity bill.

The agreement confirms the previous apprenticeship arrangements involving a combination of on-the-job training and school that has already enabled 145 high-school students to enhance their academic studies with practical work experience, offering them the chance of future employment with the Enel Group.
