ITALIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND ENEL GREEN POWER SUPPORT CREATION OF NATIONAL WIND MECHATRONICS EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTRE

Thanks to an MoU signed by the "A. Monaco" Technical Institute’s Foundation and the Region of Calabria, Italy will see the launch of its first centre that will develop and apply wind mechatronics research methods and improve training and employment opportunities in the field.

Rome, November 5th, 2015 – The Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and Enel Green Power are supporting a project for the creation of the first Education and Training Centre for Mechatronics for wind turbines in Italy.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the A. Monaco Technical Institute’s Foundation and the Region of Calabria as part of the project. The initiative is intended to create a post-diploma programme (2nd level) at the A. Monaco Technical Institute of Cosenza focusing on the acquisition, development and application of research methods in wind mechatronics, as well as on improving, implementing and diversifying training and employment opportunities in this field.

Enel Green Power is a participating member of the A. Monaco Technical Institute’s Foundation, established 2012 to promote the spread of technical and scientific knowledge and support the development of the economy and active labour market policies. The Enel Group company, a leader in the renewable energy industry, will provide equipment and services to transport wind generation equipment to the training centre and will be responsible for modifying and supplementing course materials and providing ongoing support to the training process.

Gabriele Toccafondi, Undersecretary of the Italian Education Ministry, said: “These protocols are key to the promotion of dialogue between the education and the business worlds. Agreements like this one offer a genuine opportunity for our young people to gain and develop skills that are useful on the job market, looking into the future.”

Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel Green Power, said: “Renewable energy is a growth engine for the future, a future in which young people can play an extraordinary role through their expertise and their energy. We are happy to help create, within the framework of this agreement, the skills for the growth of Southern Italy through the training of numerous students and the supply of equipment and transportation. Our country needs skilled technicians, making this a commitment we support with great pleasure.”

The Region of Calabria has committed to supporting the project with a contribution of 350,000 euros.
