Genoa, June 21st, 2018 - Enel X has installed in Genoa the first public charging station of the 100 envisaged in the agreement signed with the city government in April 2018.
With the quick charging infrastructure at Erzelli, that also serves the new headquarters of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), which adds to the EVA+ charging station installed at the end of last year at the Genoa airport, the national plan for the development of a comprehensive charging infrastructure for electric vehicles moves ahead.
This is the first major metropolitan city to have signed up for the initiative and begun the installation of the charging stations provided for under the programme, which seeks to install 7,000 recharging stations by 2020 and up to 14,000 by 2022. Enel X will install the 100 charging stations in Genoa by the end of 2018.
To further boost the use of electric vehicles throughout the city, Enel X, thanks to the collaboration with ALD Automotive, has created a special offer for employees and former employees of the IIT of Genoa, who will be able to use the long-term rental service and the electric vehicle recharging service. With the E-go Long-Term Rental offer, employees can choose the car they prefer, with all operating services included in a single fee.

“Within the scope of ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System and with the aim of achieving the goals we have set ourselves,” explained Massimiliano Gatti, Director of Technical Services at IIT, “the Italian Institute of Technology is continuing to promote electric mobility to its employees. After the success of the corporate electric car sharing programme, launched with the MOV-E project in partnership with Nissan and Enel last year, we are continuing to incentivise IIT staff to help achieve the zero emissions transport goal, which, with the installation the first recharging station at Erzelli and the customised offer for IIT employees, seems increasingly achievable.”
The partnership between Enel X and the IIT was launched in 2016 with the aim of developing projects in the electric mobility and energy efficiency fields. The collaboration continued in 2017 with the launch of the first corporate electric car sharing programme at the Institute, thanks to the collaboration of Nissan, which supplied two LEAFs, and with the installation of the first charging station with V2G technology (Vehicle to Grid) that, when regulations in Italy will allow it, will enable the use of electric cars to stabilise the grid through the bidirectional exchange of the electricity stored in vehicle batteries.
