Enel X and the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni join forces to develop electric mobility

Agreement signed for the installation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the municipalities in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni (Campania region, Italy)

Rome, October 25th, 2018 – Enel X, the Enel Group division dedicated to innovative products and digital solutions and the Park Authority of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni in Italy’s Campania region, signed a memorandum of understanding signed this morning in Rome aimed at leveraging the territory by promoting the development of sustainable mobility and the creation of zero-emission tourist routes.

The agreement, signed by Tommaso Pellegrino, President of the Park Authority, and Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel X, provides for the construction of an extensive charging network in the more than 90 municipalities in the area.

The initiative is aimed at leveraging the tourist attractions in the area through the development of electric mobility, ensuring the protection of the ecosystem and the conservation of the natural heritage and offering a set of services that can meet the needs of residents and visitors alike.

Enel X will handle the installation, activation and ordinary as well as extraordinary maintenance of charging stations for electric vehicles. The Park Authority will promote the initiative in the individual municipalities, encouraging collaboration between the company and local governments to obtain the necessary installation permits.

Enel X and the Parco Nazionale del Cilento will also cooperate on the development of the zero-emission public transport network, with a pilot electric shuttle service.

Electric mobility is an increasingly important tool for attracting tourists,” said Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel X. “The signing of the memorandum is particularly significant because it enables us to combine the conservation of the natural heritage and biodiversity with the pursuit of the socio-economic development of the territory with zero-emission vehicles to access the most sensitive and valuable natural sites in an area that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today marks a further step towards the creation of a comprehensive charging network that in just a few years will allow all owners of electric vehicles to travel in total confidence throughout Italy.”

We are very proud of the fact that our protected area, which covers the entire southern section of the province of Salerno, is the first area to consistently undertake a concrete electric mobility project,” declared Tommaso Pellegrino, President of the Parco Nazionale del Cilento, Vallo di Diano e Alburni. “We are giving a real opportunity to those who want to invest in sustainable mobility that contributes to maintaining a high-quality environment, for the benefit of the entire local community and the tourists who choose our cities and towns to spend their holidays in an environment of total respect for nature.”

The project is part of Enel’s five-year commitment to the installation of 14,000 charging stations in Italy by 2022. Enel’s national plan provides for the comprehensive coverage of the country and is open to everyone (in the public and/or private sector) that wants to collaborate on expanding electric mobility in Italy. In addition to the government, private-sector actors have also been involved in the implementation of the plan, by proposing the installation of charging infrastructures in shopping centres or signing agreements with car manufacturers.
