The municipality chooses the neighbourhood and a number of families in need, a charitable association finds food for them, and Enel contributes working hours to support the initiative and also provides warehousing.
Illuminiamo le Tavole (Bringing Light to the Table) is our corporate volunteering initiative – the fruit of co-operation with the Associazione Quartieri Tranquilli (Quiet Neighbourhoods Association), which runs projects to make the neighbourhoods of Milan more liveable and supportive.
The tables are those of 31 families experiencing hardship in the neighbourhoods of San Siro, Corvetto and Molise Calvairate. Thanks to the network founded by Lina Sotis, they have been receiving practical help in the form of foodstuffs over several months.
The time spent on the project by Enel employees usually falls within normal working hours and is paid at the standard rate. Every month we prepare 20 food bags, two per family; one contains packaged food and the other fresh, donated on the day of distribution by bakeries and the fruit and vegetable market.
We collect, record, monitor, divide up and store all the goods provided by other companies in the food-processing sector. Our aim is to distribute it as and when instructed by the association.
Volunteers are a precious resource for our country. More than six million people in Italy are involved in initiatives to support others, protect the environment and promote culture. As part of our ongoing concern for social issues, we intend to contribute to the development of the areas in which we operate by supporting local communities.
