A hundred days to go for the 100th Giro d’Italia

{{item.title}}

The countdown has started. Less than 100 days to go for a very special Giro d’Italia, the centenary one that Enel will celebrate as partner and Pink Jersey sponsor. And while waiting for the start on May 5th., the cities hosting the Giro have coloured their squares, streets, churches and buildings pink.

From the Torre di Sulis in Alghero, the starting city, to the Torre Branca in Milan, where the competition will end on May 28. For the occasion, a Pink Jersey of light illuminates the Fausto Coppi sculpture on the Stelvio, the extremely well known statue of Neptune at piazza della Signoria in Florence, the ice sculptures at the Ortisei, and many other Italian landmarks.

Enel and the Giro are part of Italy’s history, in the field of sports and energy. The Giro is our sports identity, narrating us across the world. Enel symbolises the ability to innovate energy and the technological excellence of the ‘made in Italy’, capable of opening up and competing on the international markets. Therefore, a ‘special relationship’ that also means sharing the same values: energy, tension, caring for the environment.

The 2016 edition of the Giro was one of the most innovative, but in 2017 we want to add an extra accent to its narration. In fact, Enel will accompany the Giro d'Italia in its popular story, following the caravan between cities and villages, following on the two-wheelers the same roads that see us daily engaged next to the Italian people to provide energy, services and innovations.

The kickoff is in Sardinia, which hosts the Giro for the third time after the  1991 and 2007 editions. Three laps for sprinters and finisseurs, followed by another two in Sicily and then on the roads along the whole country, up to the final arrival for the 76th. time in Milan, at the Piazza del Duomo, on May 28.

The close bond with the land that the convoy experiences lap after lap reiterates Enel’s relation with people, as documented by the various initiatives we have organised during the 2016 edition.  With the Enel Energia Open Village, the initial and final laps have been a meeting point for thousands of people, who discovered the pink promotions offered alongside the Giro and tried out Enel’s electric bicycles.

Whoever wins and keeps the Giro d’Italia Pink Jersey is able to manage his energy in the best possible way, knows the environment in which he moves and, above all, respects its limits: a philosophy that is extremely close to the sustainability principles adopted by Enel.
