Our most important and ambitious circular economy undertaking of all, Futur-e is a project that will breathe new life into 23 decommissioned thermoelectric power stations and one former mining district. Our goal is to write new chapters in the story of sites from Piedmont to Sicily that in the past powered the nation’s industrial growth and are now being given the opportunity to become drivers of sustainable development and innovation in collaboration with local communities and institutions. Not an ending therefore but a rebirth. Former power plants will be converted to shopping centres, technology or logistics hubs or structures dedicated to culture, science and tourism along the lines of the Tate Modern Gallery in London, the Central Tejo in Lisbon and the CaixaForum in Madrid.
The Futur-e project is an example of best practice at international level and also the world’s first circular economy-focused large-scale redevelopment of former industrial facilities. To ensure we pinpoint the best ideas for each particular area, we are taking an approach based on dialogue with local communities, listening to stakeholders and institutions, and seeking out investors.
We can tell you all about Futur-e and its every angle: from the circular economy to innovation, the involvement of the local communities and the repurposing of the power stations. A genuinely important project for the nation’s future.
