The plant
Main data
The plant consists of 4 gas turbine groups each with a capacity of 26 MW, consisting of: turbine powered by natural gas, alternator, air-cooled, with a 16/240 kV step-up transformer. There are also technological facilities for support and service for machinery and personnel, necessary for the production process. The energy produced is fed into the grid at 130 kV with a local connection to Terna's power station.
Recent events
In 2013 Enel obtained from the Ministry of Economic Development permission to apply safety measures and to cease operations at the gas turbine plant.
In 2003 it was again made available to the national grid to meet the summer emergency although in 2000 it was made unavailable.
The plant, which started operating in 1974, normally achieved a limited number of hours per year of operation.
The territory
Camerata is a twenty minute drive from both Ancona and Jesi and is less than a quarter of an hour from the Adriatic Sea. Together with the neighboring towns of Agugliano, Offagna, Polverigi and Santa Maria Nuova, it forms the so-called Land of Castels that represents one of the most unique features of the Marche.
The historic center of Camerata Picena documents still today the history of the city. Piazza Vittorio Veneto, located in the old fort, appears to visitors like a small village on its own. Another attraction of Camerata Picena are underground caves, now partly restored, which during the year are used to host exhibitions, nativity scenes and cultural events.
