Enel at the World Environment Day

The UN calls, Enel answers. The World Environment Day is a special day for us. This year, the fil-rouge of the events organised to celebrate the 5 June is in line with the values of our Group: “Connecting people to nature.” Therefore, focusing on biodiversity and our commitment to promoting sustainable culture and the energy transition towards the efficiency of renewable sources and smart grids.

“People are our best energy,” is written in Enel's Sustainability Report 2017-2019, that lays out actions and targets based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, the ones that are driving the first Sustainable Development Festival organised in our country.

On the 5 June, within the Festival, Enel hosts an event dedicated to decarbonisation and circular economy, in collaboration with Kyoto Club and Edizione Ambiente. It is an opportunity to celebrate the World Environment Day and to remember that the reduction of fossil sources is key to the implementation of the Paris climate agreement.
The paradigm has changed, no turning back now. Our Group has committed to decarbonising its energy mix by 2050. The industrial repurposing initiatives are a model of this strategy, it demonstrates that innovation, sustainability and caring for the land and its communities can be reconciled. This is the application of the circular economy.

The event on the 5 June will be attended by Carlo Tamburi, Enel Italy's Director, and Enrico Viale, Enel's Global Thermal Generation Director, while Raffaele Tiscar, Head of Cabinet of the Environment Ministry, will draw up the conclusions.

For Italy, the world's day that the UN celebrates since 1972 has an even greater significance because it falls one week before the G7 Environment (Bologna 11-12 June), one of the ministerial meetings scheduled under Italy’s G7 presidency, where an energy efficiency roadmap will be launched for the next 5 years. Three watchwords: reduce, reuse, recycle. The environment is grateful.
