An EU Platform for circular growth

A stakeholder platform designed to progress the European circular economy is looking for members.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and the European Commission are currently inviting people to apply for the Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform. The pair have been working on the development of a platform for the continent in recent months.

The European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform will be a "network of networks" going beyond sectorial activities and highlighting cross-sector opportunities and challenges. The Platform will be a hub gathering knowledge on circular economy and a place for dialogue among stakeholders. It will focus on promoting cross-sectoral understanding and adoption of circular economy models, as well as eliciting perceived challenges to backing it to help develop appropriate strategies.

Its remit will be to promote the integration of circular economy practices by member states; facilitate the exchange of ideas between key stakeholder groups; and provide feedback on the barriers to adoption. Members of the coordination group will help drive the initiative forward.

The European Union (EU) is committed to implementing circular economy systems. Estonia, which took over the presidency of the council of the EU this month, says it plans to  make ‘substantial progress’ on growing the circular economy.

There is just over a month left for circular economy practitioners in Europe to apply to join the new stakeholder platform.

Anyone interested in joining should apply by 31 August.
