Formula E: Rome’s first time

“Roma caput mundi” – “Rome, the capital of the world” - for electric mobility and silent, green speed. On 14 April, the Italian debut of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the world cup for electric single-seater cars, will be hosted in the capital city.

In this, the seventh race of the season, 20 single-seaters will do battle on a city circuit laid out in the EUR district. The cars will start from Via Cristoforo Colombo at 4 p.m. and race around the obelisk dedicated to Guglielmo Marconi, across the Parco del Ninfeo, alongside the “Square Colosseum,” as the Palazzo della Civiltà e del Lavoro is known to the Romans, and past the futuristic Convention Centre, Massimiliano Fuksas’s La Nuvola, which is also the location of the eVillage.

Enel, the Official Power Partner of the competition, plays the welcoming host in the city where its headquarters is based. As always, Enel provides its innovative technology: a system of innovative glycerine generators and solar panels will transform the circuit into a smart grid, powered by renewable energy that is regulated through our Energy Management System, the software package that supports monitoring and adjustment of real time consumption on tablet or smartphone.

The E-Prix marks the pinnacle of the three days in Rome dedicated to innovation and sustainability for Enel: it begins with a press conference focusing on the Enel – Formula E collaboration, at 9:30 am on 12 April, at the Palazzo dei Congressi which hosts the Media Centre in the EUR district.

Enel has also organised other related events, including an awards ceremony for PlayEnergy, the international programme created by Enel to raise awareness of respect for the environment and intelligent consumption in high school students. Furthermore, before Saturday’s E-Prix, the circuit will host a race for electric Smart cars. This is sponsored by Enel X, which will also manage their charging.

From the afternoon of 13 April, and throughout 14 April, the Enel stand at the eVillage will help visitors discover our advanced solutions for electric mobility and clean energy.

On Friday 13 April, at 3 p.m., #EnelFocusOn is scheduled for the second time in Rome (and now in its eighth edition, following appointments in Goiânia, London, Madrid, New York, San Francisco and Santiago de Chile). Participants include Ryan O’Keeffe, Enel Director of Communications, Alberto Piglia, Head of e-Mobility for Enel X, and influencers from Italy, Latin America, Romania, Russia, Spain and United States of America. The theme is, of course, electric mobility, and the keynote speech will be given by the American digital analyst Brian Solis on the effects of new technologies on society and business.

Once these three days are over, the E-Prix will also leave a lasting legacy for the inhabitants of Rome, in particular those of EUR. This will enable them to experience electric mobility first-hand: for the occasion, and as part of the European project EVA+ (Electric Vehicles Arteries), Enel has installed 4 Fast Recharge charging columns.

However, the most important legacy of all will be that experienced by the 35,000 spectators, who have enthusiastically bought all the tickets available: the memory of a day of fun and of passion for the cars which produce no atmospheric nor acoustic pollution. The sample of a sustainable future for the capital.
