The technical institutes of Tempio Pausania (Ss), Napoli, Pomarance (Pi) and the art school of Omegna (Vb) are the winners in the third edition of the contest promoted by Enel to increase the awareness of renewable energy among young people.

Rome, May 27, 2003 –

Three projects to improve the production of renewable energy devised by students at the upper highschool level, and one special mention, were selected from 15 proposals and will be realized by Enel. The winners come from Sardinia, Campania, Tuscany and Piedmont and were presented Ergagia 2003 awards today at the Enel Auditorium. Presiding at the ceremony were Antonino Craparotta, the director of Enel’s Generation and Energy Management division; Emilio Brogi, representing the Environment Ministry and; Francesco Vaccaro, the adviser for youth policy at the Education Ministry.

Ergagia, which involved 350 students from all over Italy, is an Enel project for young people in the final two years of highschool aimed at raising their awareness of renewable energy sources and their ever growing role in the production of electricity.

As a result of this initiative, the students are given the opportunity to apply knowledge acquired through their studies and "become" managers involved in the energy sector, proposing solutions to specific problems identified together with an Enel tutor who supported them through the entire exercise.

A committee made up of Enel managers, headmasters and school representatives evaluated the work presented by the participating schools and elected the best project in each of the contest’s 3 categories: Environement; Efficiency; Innovation.

The year the prestigious award went to:

    • Environment Category

    - Istituto Tecnico Commerciale "Don Gavino Pes" of Tempio Pausania (Sassari), for the botanical garden project located within the grounds of the wind farm at Alta Nurra. This would also be integrated into the plant’s educational programme.
