ENEL: TRANSPARENCY GOES ONLINE WITH OPEN DATA

Published on Monday, 19 September 2011

Enel is the first company in Italy to publish its Group financial information and sustainability data using the Open Data model
The data is available to everyone and can be downloaded in a variety of formats without any restrictions on its treatment or commercial use.

Rome, September 19th, 2011 – Enel’s Open Data project is now online. Data from the Group’s consolidated and statutory financial statements and reports and its Sustainability Report are available via the http://data.enel.com/ platform. All the information is current as of 31 December 2010, as approved by the most recent Enel Shareholders’ Meeting.

The website, whose graphics and navigation tools are designed to fit with the Enel’s global web identity, is arranged into the categories Enel Group Data, Enel Spa Data and Sustainability Data.
The first section presents results by business area, comparative financial statements for Enel Spa and the corresponding consolidated data, the market scenario and financial markets and the performance in the countries in which the Group operates.

Open Data is a model and a practice aimed at sharing public data in an open format in order to provide complete, unrestricted access to the data, facilitating its use, integration and reuse. This philosophy springs from the Open Government idea, a governance concept based on models, tools and technologies that allow government agencies to be open and transparent with the public by distributing information.

All the data can be downloaded in Excel (xls), comma-separated values (csv) and eXtensible Markup Language (xml) formats and can be freely reused, without restrictions on processing and commercial use. Basically, the various datasets will also be available in Google Fusion Tables.
Enel Open Data is subject to the Creative Commons license, a licensing tool whereby the owner of the work allows certain uses of content produced in electronic format.

The Open Data project is an example of Enel’s commitment to providing transparent reporting of its activities. In July 2011, the Group’s Sustainability Report was given an A+ rating for the fifth time in a row. This is the highest level of compliance with and application of the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the most accredited standard for economic, environmental and social sustainability adopted by major companies on a global scale.
