Società Sportiva Lazio is among the oldest football teams in Italy and Europe. It was founded in Rome on January 9, 1900 in Piazza delle Libertà by Luigi Bigiarelli and 8 other young athletes. It began as a running club and over the years saw an increase in the number of sports played, including football. The founders chose the blue-white colors in honor of Greece, home of the first Olympic Games, and as their emblem the eagle, symbol of the Roman legions. Among the most titled teams in Europe, Lazio has won the following titles: 2 Scudetti; 5 Italian Super Cups; 1 Cup Winners' Cup; 7 Italian Cups; and 1 European Super Cup.
