We took our first steps on the international scene in 2001, starting operations in Spain, Canada, the United States and Brazil. Today we supply energy all around the world.
We currently operate in 30 countries in 5 continents, with a net total capacity of 90,7 GW and networks covering 2 million kilometres. We bring ever more sustainable and reliable energy to over 75 million end users around the world.
Almost half the electric energy we produce is without carbon dioxide emissions. This makes our Group one of the main producers of energy from renewable sources. We have an installed capacity of about 58,4 GW, provided by water, wind, geothermal, solar and biomass plants.
In Europe we have an extensive presence, and we are one of the largest energy operators in the Americas. We also generate electricity in Morocco and South Africa. These developments are set to continue in other African countries and in Asia, where we are already active in India and Indonesia.
Our commitment is to supply energy to higher numbers of people to enable everyone to do more and better. At the present time, more than a billion people still do not have access to electricity. Many live in remote communities, where they desperately need electricity to emerge from isolation and become self-sufficient. We are working with these communities to supply safe and sustainable electricity, improving their daily lives.
We are also driving grid digitisation in emerging markets, facilitating the spread of smart meters, smart data and smart cities throughout the world.
International development is a priority for us and, to progress our operations, we know we must focus on our fundamental strategic drivers: sustainability, innovation and creating shared value. In aiming to be a truly global company, we have solid foundations to rely on.
