ENEL PRESENTS PLAN FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF ABRUZZO
Pescara, March 8, 2017 - A meeting between the heads of Enel Italy, the president Luciano D'Alfonso, the presidents of the provinces, the president of ANCI Abruzzo, Luciano Lapenna, and representatives of the economic and production organisations was held today at the Abruzzo region headquarters in Pescara. The meeting aimed at starting a fruitful dialogue and concrete actions for areas affected by the bad weather emergency in January.Enel presented the local initiatives already underway regarding reconstruction and upgrading of the electricity grid and the actions set up for 'extra indemnities' additional to those provided for automatically by the Authority for Electricity and Gas (Resolution 646/15) and compensations for damages.
To date, according to preliminary data, reconstruction work was completed, by adopting resilient solutions, on 30 medium-voltage lines. More than 350 new towers were set up and 35 kilometres of overhead cable were installed. After completed the reconstruction work, operations to increase energy resilience will start, aimed at improving the grid’s layout and increasing automation through remote monitoring.
Compared to the plan announced by Enel for the Abruzzo region in 2015, which involved investments for around 45 million euros/year for 5 years, the company will carry out further actions to strengthen the power grid that already in 2017 will cost 15 and 20 million euros. Based on the decisions agreed upon at the table on the resilience of the national grid with the Energy Authority, Enel will detail the actions planned for Abruzzo. Following the initiatives undertaken by Enel to meet the needs of customers and facilitate the submission of requests, over 16,000 applications have been collected in Abruzzo and Marche. In today's meeting, it was agreed that specific events should be organised over the coming weeks with the presidents of the provinces, which are already being scheduled.
"The aim of the meeting - said President D'Alfonso - was finding a balance between Enel and the local areas, in order to identify actions aimed at acknowledging damages suffered by users and companies and compensation at the local level, and studying investments to strengthen the electricity grid in the region’s most critical locations. Enel has agreed to organise other meetings with the presidents of the provinces, to study together what actions are to be taken so that what happened in January - D'Alfonso concluded – no matter how exceptional, will not produce the same consequences. Now we have to speed up the procedures".
"Collaboration and close coordination between Enel and the various institutional bodies in the local government - said Carlo Tamburi, Enel Italy Director - are the key to managing complex and objectively exceptional events such as those experienced last January. In this phase of reconstruction, in which Enel is set on providing tangible answers to Abruzzo, the same dialogue is essential to ensure efficient and effective action in everyone’s interest, starting from the local community and the productive fabric".

CAMPOTOSTO, ENEL: RELEVANT AUTHORITIES DECIDE ON RESERVOIR FILLING
Roma, 2 March 2017 – Regarding the ongoing debate on whether the Campotosto reservoir should be filled further, Enel specifies that it will follow the instructions issued by the relevant Authorities in charge of the safety of the area and its dams.
At the moment the level of the reservoir has fallen to the point that the water does not touch the Rio Fucino dam. The gradual water lowering, merely a precaution, was arranged by Enel as a consequence of the warning issued by the Major Hazards Commission in January.
Enel confirms that it submitted to the relevant Authorities the assessment performed according to the strictest criteria defined by the Authorities, and then waited for instructions from the Direction of Dams of the Minister of Infrastructures and Transport.

SNOW EMERGENCY: TABLE BETWEEN ENEL AND CONSUMER ASSOCIATIONS KICKOFF
Rome, 1 March 2017 – A worktable Enel – Consumer Associations for the bad weather emergency in Abruzzo and Marche kicked off.
The decision emerged at the end of a meeting between Enel and representatives of Consumer Associations that joined the CNCU, at the national and local level. The aim is to start a debate following the recent snow emergency in Abruzzo and Marche and its impact on the electricity service.
During the meeting, the causes of outages in the electricity network and the ways in which the company took action and carried out its communication - with the activation of specific channels and a 1600-people taskforce fielded - were looked into. The Associations described the great discomfort originating from the lack of energy, pointing out reports and requests collected from their offices in the affected area.
The Company and the Associations then began a positive exchange aimed at defining an agreement of the various issues that were discussed regarding the snow emergency and the following stage.
The table focussed on issues including the extra indemnities for customers, already arranged by Enel, which are granted on top of the automatic ones provided for by the Decree of the Electricity and Gas Authority 646/2015 and the compensation for possible damages, with the possibility of including specific cases gathered by the Associations. In addition, it was proposed that the channels where requests are submitted should be further extended, defining the ways in which the Associations should be actively and directly involved in order to be able to support customers in compiling the requests, by means of an even broader and more simple procedure.
Other issues that were discussed included the action to be taken on the electricity grid and the possibility of setting up an information and updating channel to this regard. On this subject e-distribuzione recalled the company’s participation in the technical table between the Electricity and Gas Authority, the distributors and Terna to define the guidelines for a plan to improve the resilience of the electricity system.
In addition, e-distribuzione announced that over the next few days, mobile counters will be travelling throughout the municipalities involved, and it provided information and guarantees on the deadlines for the payment of the automatic indemnities.

THE LAST GENERATOR INSTALLED IN THE EMERGENCY WAS REMOVED, E-DISTRIBUZIONE DOES NOT STOP ITS COMMITMENT FOR ABRUZZO
Counters for customers, a direct line with local institutions and associations, construction sites in three provinces. Mobile counters will soon provide assistance on compensation and refunds throughout the region
Rome, February 27, 2017 - The last generator installed in the emergency phase to feed the electricity grid in Abruzzo has been removed: e-distribuzione technicians have completed the necessary repairs and since last week all customers are regularly receiving energy from the electricity grid. However, the commitment on the region's energy infrastructure has not stopped: final repairs, the reconstruction of damaged facilities and inspections also performed with drones and helicopters are ongoing. More than 600 engineers are working in the provinces of Chieti, Pescara and Teramo on over 100 opened and managed construction sites.
e-distribuzione recalls that at this stage, in addition to the toll-free number for the Emergency Service 803500, available 24 hours a day, reports regarding the electricity grid can also be made through other contact channels for customers, such as the commercial toll-free number 800 08 55 77, from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. In addition, on the www.e-distribuzione.it website a section has been created for customers affected by the recent events, where they can submit reports and request any refunds in the event of damage and extra compensation that Enel is committed to pay to customers in addition to those automatically provided for by the Authority for electricity and gas.
To ensure maximum closeness and listening at the local level, e-distribuzione has opened several counters that will handle requests from customers, at its offices in Pescara (Via Conte di Ruvo, 5), Teramo (Viale Bovio, 40), Chieti (Via Auriti, 1), Vasto (Via del Porto, 16), Lanciano (Industrial Zone, location Follani, 30) and Giulianova (Via Galilei, 102). They are open from 8:30 am to 1pm and from 2 to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.
The direct link between company, local institutions and associations ensures a continuous exchange to facilitate the two-way information flow and identify, in close coordination, the areas in which it is possible to carry out sustainability and innovation initiatives that are useful for Abruzzo. An initiative that is already being set up is providing mobile counters that will be made available in in the coming weeks to provide more widespread information and assistance throughout the region. The areas will also be identified with the direct collaboration of mayors and associations.

ABRUZZO - ENEL, CAMPOTOSTO DAM IS SAFE, CHECKS DO NOT REVEAL PROBLEMS
Rome, January 22, 2017 - Enel confirms that no damage was detected at the Campotosto dam following the recent earthquake. The good condition of the structure is confirmed by all the required checks carried out by Enel over the last few days, including the helicopter flight that took place on Friday. The contained volume is approximately 40%, therefore very low.
However, in view of the difficult hydrogeological situation that is taking place, it was decided, as an extreme precautionary measure, to implement a further gradual reduction of the basin. The necessary authorisations for the reduction have already been requested from the competent authorities and the operations are being carried out under the strict control of Enel's engineers, already present in the area.
It is important to remember that, after the 2009 earthquake, analyses and in-depth studies have been performed to determine the location of the fault in this area, which have excluded that it could involve the foundations of the dam. In addition, assessments have been made to verify the resistance of the dams to the earthquake, performed with the support of highly specialised experts. The results showed that the dam was safe also under these conditions.
Enel noted that following each earthquake of magnitude exceeding 4 on the Richter scale checks are carried out on the dams in the way prescribed by the Dams Directorate of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the National Authority responsible for the safety of large dams, with which the company technicians are in constant contact.

The company is engaged in dealing with the effects of the ongoing adverse weather emergency on the electricity service with 400 operational vehicles and more than 450 generators.
Since the beginning of the emergency, the service has been restored to approximately 130,000 users. With their work, the teams have allowed to lower to around 90,000 the users without electricity, mostly in the province of Teramo, where two primary stations are still out of service due to the outage of the high-voltage grid. Terna communicated to e-distribuzione that the tests performed during the night produced negative results.
In the teatino area the situation is still critical for 19,000 customers, in Pescara for 16,900, while in the area of Aquila the situation affects 1,300 customers, and the service is expected to be restored today.
Following the restoration of the high-voltage lines, e-distribuzione confirms that by today the customers with outages will drop to around 60,000.
For the first time since January 16, adverse weather conditions and the freezing temperatures over the night, though they still hindered recovery tasks, did not result in further problems on the network. The situation remains complex, with heavy rainfall and road conditions hampered by bad weather.
e-distribuzione works closely with Local and Regional Authorities to manage the most critical situations by applying temporary measures, including by installing generators. Later in the day, we will provide additional updates on the evolution of the situation and restoration times estimates.

MARCHE - SNOW EMERGENCY, E-DISTRIBUZIONE: DIRECT LINE WITH THE CIVIL PROTECTION – 5.30 PM
● The number of technicians deployed by Enel on the field to restore service has risen to 350.
● More than 80 lines damaged, on the field also 60 generators and 100 operating vehicles. direct line with the Civil Protection and institutions
● From the start of the emergency, service restored to more than 30,000 customers
Ancona, January 18, 2017 - More than 350 men, 100 operating vehicles, more than 60 generators: these are the forces fielded by e-distribuzione, the Enel Group company that manages the electricity medium and low voltage networks, which for more than two days has been busy dealing with the damages on the electrical grid caused by the wave of ongoing bad weather. Since the beginning of the emergency, the task force of e-distribuzione has gradually restored the service to more than 30,000 customers.
There are presently hundreds of ongoing interventions aimed to restore the service to around 20,000 customers, located in the areas most affected by the snow emergency throughout the region, in particular in the areas of Ascoli, Macerata and Fermo. Hour after hour, the commitment of the teams is reducing the number of customers with outages, but the relentless snowfalls continue to damage the power grid. From January 17, inspections have revealed damages on more than 80 medium-voltage lines, about 20% of those who serve the region, and around 1,000 secondary substations with blackouts.
In different areas of the Marche snowfalls continue since the early hours of Tuesday, January 17, with heavy rainfall that has resulted in an emergency situation on all fronts, with fallen trees, blocks of ice, seriously hampered traffic. Fault repair is taking place in a particularly complex operating environment caused by continuing difficulties on the roads and sometimes-prohibitive operating conditions that in some cases have required the intervention of the army.
The strong earthquakes reported this morning have not caused damage to the power supply but have slowed the recovery tasks.
In most cases, failures have been caused by the combined action of ice on the conductors and gusts of high intensity wind that led to exceptional mechanical overload on the lines. In addition there trees - located beyond the buffer zone of the transmission lines where cutting is allowed - have fallen.
e-distribuzione has immediately activated the emergency procedure: strengthening the protection of the territory since the weather warning enactment, preparation of generators and technical equipment so they could operate even in harsh weather environments and the mobilisation of resources also from other regions not affected by bad weather. Also, the communication channels dedicated to the institutions have been activated as has been the direct link with the Civil Protection at regional and national level. e-distribuzione is present in the Prefectures offices to coordinate land management. Updates on the situation of the electricity grid are posted on company sites and timely information is provided to the Civil Protection and institutions on the progress of the interventions with service restoration time estimates.
Given the continuing adverse weather conditions, in anticipation also for the next few days, which hinder operations and could produce additional failures, restoration is expected within 24 hours.
e-distribuzione works closely with Local and Regional Authorities to manage the most critical situations.
ABRUZZO – SNOW EMERGENCY, E-DISTRIBUZIONE: ENERGY TASK FORCE INCREASE TO REPOWER ABRUZZO – 2 PM
Enel has deployed 1300 on the field to restore service.
Over 200 lines are damaged, also deployed 450 generators and 400 vehicles. Direct line with the Civil Protection and institutions
From the beginning of the emergency, service has been restored to more than 100,000 customers
Rome, January 18, 2017 - More than 1,300 men, 400 operational means, more than 450 generators: these are the forces fielded by e-distribuzione, the Enel Group company that manages medium and low voltage networks, which for more than three days has been engaged in dealing with the impact of the emergency bad weather on the electrical service. Since the beginning of the emergency, the task force of e-distribuzione has gradually repowered more than 100,000 users.
At the moment, 1300 men are engaged and hundreds of interventions are ongoing to restore power to about 120,000 users located in the areas most affected by the emergency snow in the region.
Hour after hour the commitment of the teams allows to reduce the number of customers with outages, but the relentless snow continues to damage the power grid. From January 16, inspections have detected damages to over 200 medium-voltage lines, about 30% of those that serve the region, and about 2,500 secondary substations affected by the outages.
In different areas of Abruzzo it is snowing relentlessly from the early hours of Monday, January 16, with heavy rainfall that resulted in an emergency situation on all fronts, with fallen trees, the formation of blocks of ice, seriously hampered traffic. Fault repair is taking place in a particularly complex operating environment with continuing difficulties on the roads and operating conditions that in some cases are prohibitive, and have sometimes required the intervention of the army.
The strong earth tremors recorded this morning have not caused damage to the power network but have slowed the recovery tasks.
In most cases, failures have been caused by the combined action of ice on the conductors and strong wind gusts bursts that led to an exceptional mechanical overload on the lines. In addition, trees have fallen located beyond the buffer zone of the transmission lines where cuts are allowed.
e-distribuzione has immediately activated the emergency procedure: a stronger control on the territory starting from the weather warning, preparation of generators and technical equipment suitable to operate even in harsh weather environments and mobilisation of resources, also from other regions not affected by bad weather. In addition, communication channels especially addressing the institutions and the direct link with the Civil Protection at regional and national level have been activated. e-distribuzione is present in the Prefectures offices to coordinate land management. Updates on the situation of the electricity grid are posted on company sites and timely information is provided to the Civil Protection and institutions on the progress of the interventions with service restoration time estimates.
Given the continuing adverse weather conditions, also forecasted for the next few days, hindering operations and possibly producing additional failures, the expected recovery times are detailed below:
within 12 hours: 9,000 customers restored (normalisation service at l’Aquila);
within 24 hours: 60,000 customers restored (Chieti: 21,000, Pescara: 13,000, Teramo: 26,000);
within 48 hours: 40,000 more customers restored.
Further updates will follow.
