Representatives of local institutions, academia and Enel will evaluate the suitability of projects for the area

Porto Tolle (RO), February 27, 2017 – On Friday, February 24 at midnight was the deadline for the submission of project proposals to "build the future" of Enel’s Porto Tolle site through the competition launched by the company in May 2016. Three proposals arrived from Italian entrepreneurs.
This is the beginning of an important stage in the site redevelopment, in which the direct involvement of local institutions and communities will be essential: in fact, a commission composed of representatives from the municipality and the region, the University of Padua, the Milan Polytechnic and Enel will assess the suitability of the proposals. Projects will be selected according to criteria of quality, degree of innovation and environmental, economic and social sustainability, with particular attention to safeguarding the environment and employment.
The proposals have in common the aim to enhance the area and part of the existing structures, with entirely new features based on sustainability. The future of the plant can then develop in areas such as tourism, entertainment, food, fish cultivation, with ideas that will create value for the area around facility.
The Porto Tolle plant is one of 23 no longer competitive thermal facilities on whose future Enel is carrying out a broad reflection aimed to identify sustainable and shared solutions within the Futur-e project launched in April 2015.
The Futur-e project foresees a great involvement from communities and local stakeholders in the conversion process of the plants. This activity is also carried out for the Porto Tolle site through different channels, including interviews with the population to ascertain the level of knowledge of the ongoing process and of the ideas on the future reuse of the plants. There are also a number of meetings with associations in this sector, in addition to the direct involvement of local institutions in the activities of the Evaluation Committee.

The process will naturally include administrative and environmental authorisations formally involving all the relevant authorities, who will be called to evaluate the final project, whose inclusion in the local context will have the best possible integration with existing activities.
