More solid, innovative, digitalised, diversified and open. To support the sustainable growth of our supply chain, we have launched the first edition of the Supplier Development Program. This was presented on 16 July by our CEO and General Manager Francesco Starace, together with Salvatore Bernabei, Head of Global Procurement; Stefano Buffagni, Deputy Minister of Economic Development; and Maurizio Marchesini, vice president of Confindustria for the supply chain and medium-sized firms.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the beating heart of the Italian economy and this program aims to create a virtuous circle. “We are proud to have launched an innovative program that aims to accompany the SMEs operating in key sectors for Enel, with bespoke services offered by our select partners, on a journey towards sustainable, technological and skills-based development, making Italian industry even more highly qualified, competitive and innovative,” commented Starace.

During the event, Bernabei explained how this new program continues a journey that our Group embarked upon some time ago. “Through this program we intend to provide more evidence of the sort of relationship that we want to build with our suppliers, a relationship that is a partnership understood as a shared purpose and shared values in the medium and long term.”

Bernabei illustrated how the program will work. In its first edition it is set to involve around 450 suppliers operating in strategic sectors. Beginning in Italy the program will then extend to include other countries in which we are present. The programme is open on a voluntary basis to all of the small and medium-sized suppliers characterized by their performance in terms of quality, safety, respect for the environment and human rights, integrity and attention to innovation and sustainability.

“This is a great opportunity for Enel, but above all for all our suppliers and all of the related supply chain,” commented Deputy Minister Buffagni. Confindustria’s Marchesini expressed “the hope that this program is successful and that it also becomes a benchmark for other companies.”

The three main groups of project partners who will provide the services were presented in the second part of the event. These are financial; managerial and technical training in certifications; and consultancy in areas such as strategy, internationalisation, Interim Management, Mergers & Acquisitions and the circular economy. By sharing experience, skills and innovative ideas, our suppliers will have the chance of working more with us, building satisfying and long-lasting relationships, in line with our Open Innovability® approach.

The Supplier Development Program, a commitment, a responsibility, a choice.
