The first edition of what is considered one of the globally most important cycling competitions on street, was held in 1909 and since then rivalries, challenges and tensions between the great stars of cycling, have marked the stories and the history of this sport.

The Giro 100, as was renamed the hundredth edition of the Giro d’Italia by the organisers of the competition, will be held next year on 21 stages and will see once again the energy of Enel "worn" by the numbers one of world cycling, like our Vincenzo Nibali, winner this year.

The planned route for the Giro100 provides a journey of over 3,500 kilometres divided into 21 stages, the first will start from Alghero in Sardinia. It will then go to Sicily, Calabria and Puglia and Abruzzo. In Foligno, in Umbria, where there will be a day of rest, a series of initiatives of solidarity are planned for those affected by the earthquake of August 24. The Giro100 will also be a tribute to its historical samples, after Foligno Montefalco, the Tuscany stage starts from Ponte a Ema, the birthplace of Gino Bartali. Two days later, we pass in the province of Alessandria in Piedmont, arriving in Tortona, where Fausto Coppi died, and then leave the next day from Castellania, his birthplace and get to Oropa (Biella province) where Marco Pantani wrote an unforgettable page of cycling. Approaching to the Alps it will touch Bergamo, city of Felice Gimondi, three-time winner of the Tour, and then climb on the Stelvio to the Cima Coppi. The eighteenth stage is to dolomite and proposes in sequence: Pordoi, Valparola, Gardena, Pinei and Pontives. It will go over to Switzerland for the stage number 19, while for the twentieth fraction it will go up on Mount Grappa. The "final lap" will start from the temple of speed, the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, to traditionally end in Piazza del Duomo in Milan.

An intense journey through history and through the territory, which is the natural fitting of the union between the Giro and our company, which through one million kilometers of power lines, hundreds of power plants and numerous Punto Enel present locally, takes energy and services to thousands of Italians.
