First utility in the world to be granted a listing on the index in recognition of Enels commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
Rome, March 26, 2003 Enel is the first utility company to be listed on the FTSE 4 Good Global 100, the stock market index representing the worlds 100 leading companies based on their commitment to the environmental and social sustainability of their businesses.
FTSE 4 Good eligibility is based on an assessment of a companys commitment to social responsibility, its achievements in the environmental (environmental policies and management systems, published reports) and social (stakeholder relationship management systems) fields, and its record on human rights.
The first hundred companies to meet the above criteria are included in the FTSE 4 Good Global 100. From this year Enel has been included in the index in recognition of its commitment to sustainable economic growth, which has seen the company include corporate social responsibility among its corporate goals.
Enel has, for example, recently strengthened its performance in this area by adopting modern organizational and management mechanisms. These include a Code of Ethics, establishing the values and rules of conduct the Company must follow in going about its business, and an Organizational Model that is one of the most advanced in terms of corporate crime prevention.
Enel intends to take its commitment to social responsibility one step further this year with the publication of a Sustainability Report, which will detail sponsorship initiatives, employee support programs and investment in environmental protection.
