Bucharest, May 29th, 2007 - Enels CEO, Mr Fulvio Conti, met today in Bucharest with the Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, the Ministry of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian, the President of AVAS Teodor Atanasiu.
Through these meetings Enels CEO restated Enels long-term commitment towards Romania with the investment in Electrica Muntenia Sud to be finalized shortly as well as the Groups taking part in ongoing and forthcoming tenders such as those for the thermoelectric power plants of Braila and Doicesti and the nuclear power plant of Cernavoda.
After meeting with the Romanian Institutions, Mr Fulvio Conti commented Enel is ready to further contribute to the development of the Romanian energy industry. Enel is already committed to pay 820 million euros for the acquisition of Electrica Muntenia Sud which is expected to be signed in the next days. We are planning to invest additional 2 billion euros in the distribution sector in the next 15 years of which 1 billion euros will be addressed to Enel Electrica Banat and Enel Electrica Dobrogea whereas the remaining 1 billion euros will be for Electrica Muntenia Sud to modernize its network and implement the quality of the service for its customers. We made an offer for Braila, we are interested in developing the nuclear plant of Cernovoda and we are willing to expand also in the renewables namely wind farms. Our growth plans both in distribution and generation will contribute in making Romania the energy hub in the region, by reducing the countrys dependence on fuel imports and promoting a more balanced fuel mix and increased efficiency of power plants.
