Sustainable mobility: a winning choice
To counteract this threat, the European Union has drawn up Directive 2014/94 (or DAFI, Directive Alternative Fuel Initiative), which requires member states to take action in developing alternative fuel strategies as well as building the infrastructure required to refuel or charge vehicles. By subscribing to this document, Enel has committed to the development of electric mobility projects and solutions. Internally, we promote green culture with a fleet of hundreds of electric and hybrid vehicles; we provide a wide range of alternative mobility opportunities, and not only for our customers. We have embarked on many roads leading to the swift and competitive development of electric mobility in Italy—including fast charging stations, agreements signed with local governments to create infrastructure, and partnerships with automotive companies and innovative businesses to refine vehicle technology.
We take part in institutional agreements and events to encourage the spread of electric mobility. Among these, the Memorandum of Understanding that Enel signed with the Italian association of motorway operating companies AISCAT (Associazione Italiana Società Concessionarie Autostrade) to equip highways with a fast charging infrastructure network in rest areas.
In a partnership with A2A, Gruppo Hera and Class Onlus, we developed and joined an electric mobility strategic platform, the Carta di Arese. The document, which is one-of-a-kind in Italy, provides guidelines for the development of electric mobility: tangible measures such as incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles, the reduced cost of energy used to charge vehicles, changes in traffic laws for public charging areas and the development of smart grids.
The people, always at the heart of this revolution, should be made aware of the advantages of electric mobility, primarily of opportunities for savings: overall, electric cars consume much less than “traditional” fuel ones. Additionally, many insurance companies have special policies offering a 20% savings, vehicle license fees are discounted, blue parking spaces are free, and restricted traffic zones have opened their access points to electric cars. Even regular maintenance becomes easier, with lower costs compared to traditional cars.
In Italy and the rest of the world, choosing electric cars means saying goodbye to noise pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, saving and contributing with simple gestures to a truly sustainable life. We want to stand by those who choose to build a more conscious, efficient, and eco-friendly country.
