A national network to eliminate charging anxiety

A national network to eliminate charging anxiety

{{item.title}}

To become a key player in the electric mobility revolution, starting with the creation of a public and private charging network, and to cover all areas and eliminate the fear of being left without energy. This was our aim in November 2017 when we launched the National Plan for the Installation of Charging Infrastructure, which outlined extensive and comprehensive coverage across all the Italian regions. By 2020 Enel X will have installed 14,000 charging stations, 28,000 by 2022, thereby contributing to the increase of the number of e-vehicles on the road.

In putting the Plan into practice, Enel X will invest up to 300 million euro in an extensive and comprehensive charging network of Quick (22 kW) stations, in urban settings and, for fast charging, Fast (50 kW) and Ultra Fast (up to 350 kW) outside the cities. The last category also includes the charging stations of the EVA+ (Electric Vehicle Arteries) European project. This will be co-financed by the European Commission and coordinated by Enel in collaboration with the Austrian utility provider, Verbund, and the car manufacturers, Nissan, Renault, BMW and Volkswagen.

EVA+ envisages the installation of 200 Fast charging stations, of which 180 in Italy and 20 in Austria, along the motorway corridors. Today, over 100 “Fast Recharge” stations are already operational: using technology developed entirely by Enel, they guarantee a charge of up to 50 kW of power and are compatible with all electric vehicles currently on the market. They are also fully compliant with the highest safety standards.

Furthermore, Enel X will be working with IONITY in installing up to 20 HPC (high power charging) sites in Italy. The sites can accommodate a maximum of six stations, each with a capacity of up to 350 kW. This will enable them to fully charge current e-vehicle models and those of the next generation in 15-30 minutes.

The electrification of Italy’s roads is racing ahead, at full speed.
