The Bed & Breakfast della Mamma, which was inaugurated on 25 January in Rome, is a women’s social enterprise, a place of hospitality, and a professional project for the future. Together with another 17 donors, Enel Cuore Onlus has made a significant contribution to the launch of this initiative, which was developed by Carla Berti Guerra, President of the La Casa della Mamma Association. Its aim is to support single mothers in difficulty and their children.
The new B&B represents a point of reference for travellers who are looking for a family environment in the city with a staff that is attentive to human values. Indeed, the young mothers themselves will manage the accommodation facility at No. 40 in Via Forlì. The idea is that this work will help them overcome the condition of marginalisation they are often driven into by prejudice, as well as by the sudden change of life that childbirth can entail.
“We have supported a marvellous project that will help and guide girls and young mothers on the path towards independence; they will have the opportunity to come into contact with the world of work in a way that is both gradual and protected," explains Andrea Valcalda, Head of Sustainability at the Enel Group and Enel Cuore’s Executive Director.
The Bed&Breakfast enables mothers to play an active role in the business and sees them engaged in a training pathway with tasks in providing hospitality and running the facility. The professional dimension is fundamental and helps rebuild their emotional and psychological identity, consolidating both their independence and self-confidence.
From an economic point of view, the project offers a model that can be replicated in the Rome and Lazio (the region of Italy around Rome – ed) markets – which both have a thriving tourism industry – and guarantees revenues with which the Casa della Mamma Association can support other solidarity initiatives.
